Clear Braces at Braces Braces
Clear braces are affordable and efficient, combining the best of both traditional braces and Invisalign aligners. This treatment option is less expensive and less responsibility than Invisalign, but more discreet than traditional braces. The ceramic material we use is also extremely durable, but softer than traditional metal. Clear braces are a great option to get the straighter smile you want with a less noticeable look during the in-between treatment period.
Made with tooth-colored ceramic brackets and clear/white wires and bands, clear braces are designed to blend in with your teeth. This treatment is a great option for kids, teens and adults who want the aesthetic appeal of subtle orthodontics.
Understanding the Process
All patients start with a free initial consultation. This is when you and your orthodontist go over objectives, goals and any questions. We treat patients of all ages and, whether it’s you or your child needing braces, all adults, teens and children receive custom treatment. At Braces Braces, we believe in personalized care because we know every patient is different. If you decide to get clear braces, we will create an extensive plan for your teeth.
Our team will further examine and assess your teeth during this visit. We will take impressions along with digital X-rays. This can sometimes occur during the initial consultation. The information we gather is then used to create the customized clear braces you chose for treatment.
At the following appointment, the brackets are bonded to the teeth. The flexible arch wires are placed between the brackets and the clear rubber bands are put on to help subtly shift the teeth into a straighter position over time. You may experience some soreness afterwards, but it should be treatable with over-the-counter pain relief. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re concerned about this.
After this point, there are regular follow-up appointments. These appointments happen every six to eight weeks. During these visits, the orthodontist tightens arch wires and puts on new rubber bands. Any time you come in, we’re here to answer your questions and talk with you about any concerns you may have.
At your final appointment, we’ll take your braces off and make sure everything looks as it should. And once your treatment is complete, we’ll provide you with a complimentary teeth whitening session to make your new smile as bright as possible!
Taking Care of Clear Braces
Today’s clear braces are designed to resist stains, but it’s still important for patients to care for them properly. While the brackets will not stain, the small and porous rubber bands used for braces can stain. This is especially true if you drink a lot of stain-causing beverages. With that being said, we change the rubber bands every time you come in for an adjustment, so you’ll always have new bands in about a month’s time.
Ideally, you should brush and floss twice a day and rinse frequently throughout the day, especially after meals. Clear brackets are slightly larger than traditional brackets, so it’s even more important to do this to prevent food from getting under your wires and leading to cavities or decay. You may need to use special flossers to make flossing with braces easier.
If our orthodontists determine that this clear orthodontic solution is best for you or a family member, we will provide you with specific care instructions for your braces. This can include best cleaning practices, specific foods to avoid during treatment, and more.
How to Handle Orthodontic Issues
Sometimes issues may arise with your clear braces. If you feel scratches on the side of your mouth, you may want to dab some wax on your brackets. Your orthodontist will give you wax when you get the braces.
If a wire comes loose, you should contact your orthodontist. The team at Braces Braces will let you know if you can clip the wire and wait for your next appointment, or if you need to come in for an emergency appointment. Similarly, in the rare case that a bracket comes loose, you should also contact your orthodontist.
