Questions About Your Initial Orthodontic Visit?
Congratulations on making your beautiful smile and excellent dental health a priority! If you’ve never been to our orthodontic practice before, you’re likely curious about what to expect during your initial orthodontic visit and how your appointments will change over time.
We’ve provided the information below to help you better understand what to expect when you choose best in class orthodontic care at Braces Braces.
Initial Orthodontic Consultation
This first consultation is free! Our initial meeting will take about 30 minutes and consist of a complimentary, thorough examination of your teeth, mouth and gums. We’ll also discuss together the best treatment plan for your needs, as well as cost-effective orthodontic financial options to make your time with Braces Braces as affordable as possible.
Treatments
Your orthodontist will go over available options for orthodontic treatment, including the pros and cons of each. Braces Braces has traditional metal braces, clear braces and Invisalign aligners for patients of all ages.
Financing
Our team will go over dental insurance information and the many orthodontic financing options, discounts and specials available to your family. Braces Braces is committed to making treatment accessible to anyone who needs or wants it.
Additionally, during this initial orthodontic visit, our team will learn about your goals and concerns, take photographs of your teeth, and make a follow-up appointment to complete your records and prepare for treatment if you choose to move forward with orthodontic care.
You are encouraged at all times to share any questions you may have with our experienced orthodontists and team members! We’re here to discuss anything from concerns about pain after braces to what you hope your smile will look like.
What Happens Next?
After your initial appointment is complete, we schedule a second meeting that will take approximately one hour. This meeting is sometimes fitted in immediately following your first appointment, if we have the availability.
During this appointment, we address any questions you may have before you sign our Terms of Service, provide a health history, and complete various consent forms and releases. We will also take more digital X-rays and make impressions of your teeth.
The third visit will take a little over an hour. During this bonding appointment, your braces will be evaluated and then adhered to your teeth, or your aligners will be evaluated and then fitted to your teeth. Patients are given care instructions and cleaning supplies to take home.
Following the first ortho visit, as well as your second and third visits, patients come to one of our Atlanta offices routinely for about 30 minutes every couple of weeks. This allows our experienced team to check progress and adjust your braces as needed.
If you require an emergency appointment due to an accident or injury, we will fit you in on the same day, if possible.
Getting to the Final Visit
Over time we have been gently shifting your teeth and, once everything has been repositioned according to plan, your orthodontic team will then remove the brackets, polish the teeth, and do the impressions for your retainers. This appointment generally takes over an hour.
Months after that initial appointment, it’s time for your final “bite check” and photo shoot! Patients are given retainers, and we’ll also discuss maintenance of your new smile, oral health tips, and proper retainer use and care.
How Long is the Overall Process?
This is one of the most common questions our team is asked during initial orthodontic visits. Patients want to know what to expect with timing and we want to help you anticipate what’s to come. There are many factors that determine how long you will wear braces! Your orthodontist will discuss the factors that can affect timelines with you.
The Braces Braces team develops a comprehensive custom treatment plan for each patient. We’ll discuss an estimate of treatment time with all patients; however, this is only an estimate as every experience will be unique.
Ideally, we like to plan a 24-month treatment time, from beginning to end. This may take less or more time, depending on your needs. Please keep in mind that at Braces Braces, you pay one flat fee, regardless of duration of treatment. Our priority is always to achieve a healthy smile you or your child are happy with, whatever time it takes!
